Summer has already arrived. Preparing ourselves for summer is necessary since the intensity and duration of the extreme heat is expected to increase. It has a significant impact on our well-being.
It affects mostly on the following group of people-
Infants and children
Older adults
Laborers
Peoples who are working outside during the peak hours
Athletes
People with medical conditions
What should we do?
Wear light colored clothes; avoid black or tightly fitted clothes.
Sunglasses and hats are a must.
Apply sunscreen before going outdoors and reapply in every 2-3 hours.
Re-hydration is a must. Drink more water.
You can take ORS/ electrol, or coconut water time to time ( except for hypertensive and high blood sugar patients; consultation needed).
Avoid oily, spicy, rich food.
Watermelon, grapes, papaya, cucumber are must haves as summer fruits.
Do not go directly outside from air-conditioned places or vice versa. At first let your body to adapt the temperature.
Do not drink cold drinks, ice-cream or take cold bath when you are over-heated.
Use your oven less when there are extreme heat weather conditions.
If you have to be outside, try to stay in shaded areas. Use hat & umbrella.
If you're going to be away from home for a while and will be outside or using public transportation, make sure to bring water and oral rehydration solutions with you.
